Yesterday, my sweet Daddy and I were talking about his collection of beautiful Bibles, and in one of them, there was a quote by pastor Adrian Rogers...
For the follower of Jesus Christ, death is a comma, not a period.
The timing of finding this could not be more perfect...Seven years ago, I woke up knowing it would be the last day my Mama had to battle on this earth. I can hardly believe it has been long since she went home. It feels like it has been 100 years and just a few minutes, all at the same time.
Every year, as I think about how we should do this day, I am reminded of how she would’ve done it....to LIVE in worship. Do we miss her? Oh my goodness, YES!! Now, as a Memaw, I miss her more than ever. BUT GOD took death from her and gave her life. So, it just makes sense that we should use this day to celebrate her precious life and God’s use of it.
“Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11
Only a couple of hours after I cleaned her precious body to be taken from the house, I heard this song for the first time. I’m not sure she ever heard it on Earth, but I am quite sure she is still dancing to it today on the streets of gold, there in the presence of God almighty!
When I think of her, I think of what she is seeing there...She is standing - completely healed - with the multitudes, beholding HIM. It brings me immense comfort, excitement, and expectation!! Not completely because I am thinking of her, though. Don't get me wrong...Thoughts of her there are incredibly special! However, what gives me true and lasting peace is thinking of the God of all the universe who sent His Son to set us free and make us pure and holy so that we might be able to stand before Him, a pure and holy God, in eternity.
Praise God that we don’t grieve as those who have no hope!! Praise God that our hope is not of this earth!!! Praise God that there is life after the death of this fallen world!! Praise God that dwelling on and beholding Him is a balm to our aching souls!!
Take a moment and join our family in celebration of a life well lived and worship of the only living King, Jesus Christ!
"Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!" 1 Cor 15:55-56
